YUASA BATTERY SALES (UK) LTD ANNOUNCES WINNERS IN BTCC 2012 END-OF-SEASON COMPETITION

Yuasa Battery Sales (UK) Ltd., the UK market leader for Automotive Aftermarket, Industrial and Motorcycle Batteries, has announced the winners and runners-up in its BTCC 2012 end-of-season competition. Winner – Darren Barker from Borras, Wrexham – gets two hospitality tickets for race day at Brands Hatch on Sunday 21st October plus use of a new Honda Civic for the race weekend. Darren’s name, alongside that of his guest, will also appear on the Team Honda Yuasa Racing Civics.

Four runners-up – Chris Field from Stowmarket, Suffolk, Tom Barker from Stallingborough, NE Lincs, Mark Guest from Ashford, Kent and Andy Taylor from Willan, Devon – win pairs of admission tickets for Brands Hatch race day.

The competition winners can expect to see a thrilling finale to the 2012 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship where Honda Yuasa Racing’s “Flash” Gordon Shedden and Matt Neal are both in contention for the drivers’ championship in a four man title showdown. Shedden leads the standings with a slender 15-point advantage over rival Jason Plato (MG6) with Neal a further 16 points behind. Andrew Jordan (Pirtek Racing Civic) has an outside chance trailing Shedden by 61 points but leads another four-way fight for the Independent Drivers Trophy title.

Honda Yuasa Racing has already wrapped up two championships in the 2012 season, romping to victory in the Teams’ and Manufacturer-Constructors’ Trophies and repeating the clean sweep of all three titles achieved in 2011 is still well within their grasp. Defending Champion Matt Neal will need something special to achieve back-to-back titles but Shedden arrives at Brands Hatch on top of the standings and has an excellent opportunity to land his maiden BTCC Drivers’ title.

Andrew Taylor, managing director of Yuasa Battery Sales (UK), commented, “Our third season as principal sponsor of Honda Yuasa Racing – and first as team title sponsor – has lived up to all our expectations with top class racing throughout an exciting season. We remain confident of seeing a second successive clean sweep of titles but are fully aware of the work that needs to go into producing the best results on raceday. Support for the team throughout the season has been phenomenal and we hope to deliver another drivers’ trophy at Brands Hatch in what is sure to be an exciting series of races.”
