Yuasa showcase latest Lithium-ion UPS battery technology at Data Centre World

Yuasa put on a powerful display at this year’s Data Centre World exhibition at Excel, London on 15/16 March. The world’s leading battery manufacturer had an extensive presence at the show which included a state-of-the-art Lithium (Li-ion) Power Cabinet in the DCW Live Green Data Centre.

Designed to be a space saving, ‘plug and play’ solution, the Li-ion power cabinet contains 12 GS Yuasa LIM50EN-12-F2 Li-ion high energy modules controlled by a battery management system.

Despite being only the size of a filing cabinet, the system provides 300kW of power and is designed to be a convenient alternative to Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) powered UPS systems for data centre and other critical standby power applications.

With the cabinet positioned next to a Yuasa SWL VRLA battery rack, the exhibitions’ 12,000 attendees were given the unique opportunity to see first-hand the quality, reliability and high performance of both systems. This is the first time Yuasa have exhibited both side-by-side.

Yuasa also brought a touch of adrenalin fuelled British Touring Car Championship action to the exhibition with its purpose built Scalextric circuit taking centre stage on the brand-new Yuasa stand. Hundreds of visitors tried their hand at BTCC racing, taking control of miniaturised versions of Honda Yuasa Racing’s 2015 championship winning racing cars.

Showcasing a wide variety of its extensive battery ranges during the exhibition, the Yuasa stand also featured a purpose-built data centre battery rack containing its market leading FXH, SWL, EN, ENL and Li-ion ranges.

Mark Greer, General Sales Manager – Reserve and Renewable Power Division at GS Yuasa Battery Sales UK Ltd said: “We are delighted to have showcased our industry leading UPS battery solutions on both our stand and within Data Centre World’s operational data centre. Displaying a working Li-ion battery power cabinet next to its more familiar VRLA battery equivalent has given thousands of data centre professionals at the show the opportunity to see this new technology up close.

“This year’s show has been a huge success for us. Over the two days we’ve welcomed many visitors to our stand and demonstrated the characteristics of our high quality VRLA and Lithium-ion products. We’ve also given them the chance to try their hand at BTCC racing, all be it in Scalextric form!

“GS Yuasa are the world’s leading battery manufacturer, and we are key partner to many high-profile, successful data centre installations across the globe. All our batteries provide proven dependable backup power and feature the latest technology. We work with our customers to provide the optimum standby solution for their individual project by assisting with all aspects of the build from planning through to supply and installation.”
