Yuasa, Europe’s number one choice for industrial batteries, powered up this year’s Data Centre World at Excel, London on 21 & 22 March by displaying a host of advanced energy storage solutions. These included a dual chemical battery system which made its first UK appearance at the show.
Hundreds of visitors to Yuasa’s stand saw how Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) & Lithium-ion technologies collaborate in Yuasa’s dual chemical battery system which has been developed to offer the low cost and recyclability of VRLA together with the higher efficiency and operational flexibility of li-ion.
The system is housed in a filing cabinet sized unit in which strings of LIM batteries are connected in parallel with FXH
VRLA types to the same DC bus of a UPS. If the electricity supply fails, over 90% of the load is supported by the li-ion batteries.
The dual chemical solution allows lower capital cost UPS systems to be installed with lower operating costs and reduced electricity consumption.
The battery manufacturer also exhibited a Lithium-ion energy storage cabinet on their stand. Designed to be a space saving, ‘plug and play’ solution, it contained 12 GS Yuasa LIM50EN-12-F2 Li-ion high energy modules controlled by a battery management system.
Despite its small size, the system provides 300kW of power and is designed to be a convenient alternative to VRLA powered UPS systems for data centre and other critical standby power applications.
Yuasa also showcased a wide variety of its market leading FXH, SWL, EN, ENL battery ranges with a heavy focus on Data Centre and UPS applications. Visitors to the stand were also able to try their hand at some British Touring Car Championship motorsport fun thanks to a purpose built Scalextric circuit with mini Yuasa branded BTCC racing cars.
